What is Tier 2 Reporting?

Tier 2 reports (also written as “Tier II”) are required by the EPA for facilities that store hazardous chemicals above certain threshold quantities. Facilities who trigger reporting requirements must complete the report by March 1 of each year for chemicals stored during the previous calendar year, and must submit the report to local emergency response agencies. The EPA established Tier 2 reporting obligations through the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA). Certain very toxic chemicals called Extremely Hazardous Substances (EHSs), including sulfuric acid found in forklift batteries, require reporting in much smaller quantities.

Tier II reports detail the chemical storage practices at your facility and helps get this crucial information into the hands of the people who need it most, like your local fire department, SERC, and LEPC.
