Toxics Release Inventory Reports are Due July 1
The deadline to submit Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) reports for 2009 is July 1. Section 313 of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) of 1986, also known as Title III of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act, requires certain facilities, (e.g., manufacturing, coal mining, recycling and commercial hazardous waste treatment companies), to submit this report annually if they have 10 or more employees or use certain chemicals in amounts that exceed the enacted threshold quantities.
The report itself, commonly referred to as Form R, captures the release or transfer of toxic chemicals. The purpose of TRI reporting is to facilitate emergency planning and to disclose to the public what types of chemical releases are taking place in their communities. The EPA uses the reports to compile the national TRI database, which contains information on nearly 650 chemicals and chemical categories from more than 23,000 facilities.
