Take Charge of Electrical Safety with On-Demand Training
04/04/2019
Working with electricity can pose serious dangers such as electric shock, electrocution, fires, and explosions, and regulations require employers in various industries to take the necessary steps to protect workers who are exposed to these hazards. With Electrical Safety Month coming up in May, it’s the perfect time to make sure you’ve taken the right steps for safety. VelocityEHS offers an Electrical Safety training course as part of our On-Demand Training course library, which can help you safeguard employees, meet electrical safety hazards and avoid costly fines resulting from noncompliance.
Workplace Electrical Safety – Key Facts:
- OSHA addresses electrical safety and outlines requirements in standards for General Industry (29 CFR 1910), Maritime (29 CFR 1915, 1917 and 1918), and Construction (29 CFR 1926). More information about OSHA’s electrical safety requirements is available at OSHA.gov.
- According to the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI), electrical hazards are disproportionately fatal and costly compared to other types of workplace hazards, and have resulted in more than 20,000 workplace injuries over the past 10 years.
- Bureau of Labor Statistics data show that during 2017 alone, there were 136 U.S. worker fatalities resulting from exposure to electricity and more than 2,200 nonfatal injuries that required a median of 10 days away from work.
