Footrests: When You Need It and What to Look For
02/12/2015
The number one reason to use a footrest is if you're seated at a fixed-height work table and your feet can't touch the floor. Humantech ergonomist, Ryan Cowart, shares other reasons in the video below.
Footrests come with a variety of options and features. Some come padded or heated, others have massage capabilities, what's important, however, is its ability to adjust. When selecting the right one, make sure it meets the specifications below.
- Select a footrest that is height-adjustable between 11 to 18 inches.
- With your feet flat on the footrest, a minimum thigh clearance of 7 inches should remain between the top surface of the seat pan and the underside of the work surface.
- Make sure the angle is adjustable between 10 to 25 degrees from the horizontal plane.
- Choose a footrest than can be adjusted using foot pedals. This will prevent you from having to bend over to alter the device to the desired orientation.
