MSDSonline customers can now access MSDSs and manage their chemical inventory from their smartphones and tablets, including iPhone®, Android™, and Blackberry® devices. Additionally, a new Chemical Inventory Scanner App for use with iPad™ provides additional chemical container management and barcode scanning capabilities.
Chicago, IL – July 10, 2012 – MSDSonline Inc. (www.MSDSonline.com), a leading developer of cloud-based EH&S compliance management solutions, announced today that it has optimized its mobile interface to give users quick, easy, and cross-platform access to relevant administrative features of its HQ and HQ RegXR Accounts. The enhancement makes it easier for users to access MSDSs and manage their chemical inventories in the places where their chemicals are stored.
MSDSonline also unveiled a free Chemical Inventory Scanner App for iPad that HQ and HQ RegXR customers can use to scan barcodes or QR labels and reconcile chemical inventories while in the field. The app, available via iTunes, gives users the ability to search and view container details, edit container status, and virtually move containers to other locations on the fly.
“The ability to access MSDSs and manage chemical inventories via smartphones and tablets is a growing need for our customers. We’ve responded with best-in-class mobile chemical inventory management,” said Mike Flynn, VP of product development for MSDSonline. “Our customers expect great design in addition to functionality, so it wasn’t enough to simply provide mobile access to our tools. We wanted to provide a mobile experience that honors the care and thoughtful design integral to our chemical management solutions.”
The timing of MSDSonline’s mobile launch coincides with recent updates to the Hazard Communication Standard – now known as Hazcom 2012 – by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA recently revised the HCS to align with the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), which changes the way chemical hazards are classified and communicated via labels and safety data sheets.
As a result of the changes, businesses covered by the Hazard Communication Standard should expect MSDS and chemical management to require even more time and attention than usual.
Cassandra Minutillo, director of product development at MSDSonline, said, “Mobile functionality should help make the transition to GHS easier by allowing customers to view critical safety information when and where they need it most in their work environment.”
